Victor Frias
A First Street artist since 2007, Victor Frias has developed a language of draftsmanship that is both unique and delightful. Efficiency of mark-making, portraiture, and curious narratives are combined to create a body of work that is, at once, both crystal clear and indecipherable. Victor creates his crisp line drawings with an amazing confidence, seldom erasing or sketching his compositions in advance. While his subject matter usually consists of figures or animals, Victor’s inspirations are a bit harder to pin down. He draws from his surroundings, books and magazines, and his imagination, always giving his subjects some sort of odd or surprising character trait. One thing that isn’t hard to see in Victor’s drawings is his love of Halloween, with some pieces being a little bit cute, some a bit scary, and most a little of both.
