Without Restrictions showcases seven artists who demonstrate both excellence and variety in their compelling work. Unlike many contemporary artists who are bound by constraints of the art market, these individuals create freely enabling their work to be true to their vision.
First Street and Tierra’s Sunland Artists well represented at CORE 6 exhibition
Arts and Services for Disabled and the National Arts and Disability Center present the sixth annual installment of Core: Defining Ourselves. Core is a space for artists, community members, and arts & disability advocates to build common bonds and promote visability through a diverse art forum. This year’s event will take place at the Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica and will feature multiple performances in addition to the art display. Included in the show are First Street Gallery artists Helen Rae, Dru McKenzie, and Evelyn Campos and Sunland Studio artists Sarit Halo, Sarkis Keushkerion, Harold Sakamoto, and Gustavo Cruz who received a First Place Prize for his drawing, Woman with Baby (Three Faces). Core 6: Defining Ourselves is co-curated by First Street Gallery artist Rebecca Korin and Gallery Manager Seth Pringle and includes an international selection of artists.
Saints & Sinners XXIV
Pasadena, CA – SAINTS & SINNERS XXIV, The Folk Tree’s annual Easter season exhibition, is on view April 16 – May 14, 2011. Work by area artists addressing themes such as good v. evil and the sacred v. the profane are displayed alongside Latin American religious folk art and artifacts, primarily from Mexico. Approximately forty artists are included, represented by painting, printmaking, assemblage, cut paper and paper mache, drawing, mixed media, jewelry, and more. The public is invited to a reception on Saturday, April 16, from 2 – 6 P.M.

Light Bringer Project’s 24-Hour Gallery presents
Gustavo Cruz
Recent works reflect the artist’s contemplation of man’s existence in the physical world, and his never-ending quest for answers. These thoughts appear via intertwined body parts, organs and faces that combine to take on other forms. Cruz’s intuitive nature is revealed in black and white multidimensional compositions, mirroring the way he perceives them in his mind’s eye.

Gustavo Cruz is a part of the Tierra del Sol Foundation’s supported education program, NEXUS. The NEXUS program supports inclusive education, coupling participants with coaches at community colleges. Tierra del Sol Foundation serves our community by enabling individuals with disabilities to establish valued roles and contributions within the economic, cultural and civic vitality of their communities.
Portraits
This group show features interpretations of the portrait genre by the artists of First Street Gallery Art Center and the Tierra del Sol Foundation. Each artist presents the unique possibilities for representation and insight provided by a simple portrait. From self-portraits to celebrity portraits, realism to abstraction, this exhibition exemplifies the diversity of artistic styles and methods found at First Street Gallery and Tierra del Sol.

These images evoke dreams, fantasies, and the inner joy that artistic achievement brings by expressing themselves creatively.
