Every Object Every Flow

Every Object Every Flow is a group show that questions the role of art as an isolated object.  The paintings, drawings and sculpture included are merely glimpses into the depth and complexity of the artist’s practice.  Like roadside fruit stands, they give us just a taste of what these artists have to offer as they lead us down the endless road of creative discovery, providing just enough flavor to keep us hungry and wondering.

Thunderbolt(below), a drawing by Patrick Dwyer, utilizes language on the edge of collapse, exploiting the tension between written word and expressive mark-making while Evan Wright’s ghostly musician portraits manage to convey surprising levels of personality before disintegrating into swirls of graphite line.

Works by Katie Bristol, Teresa Curiel-Gonzalez, Patrick Dwyer, Martha Harris, Nikki Kesterson, Tom Lamb, Michael LeVell, Eric Lue, John Peterson, Helen Rae, Jennifer Tamashiro, Willette Wilson, Evan Wright & Joe Zaldivar.

Exhibition Dates: February 3rd, 2012 through March 23rd, 2012

Opening Reception: Friday February 3rd, 6-8pm

Passages

First Street Gallery Art Center is pleased to announce Passages, an exhibit which explores the interplay between artists and writers and engages in a cyclical, creative exchange between First Street Gallery and a wider community. Guest contributors have each responded to works of art created by First Street Gallery artists by choosing and recording a literary passage for the exhibit.  In a reciprocal dialog between image making and writing, Passages investigates the qualities of human presence that imbue works of art and literature with vitality.  Passages presents selected works by artists from First Street Gallery Art Center alongside a single-channel video featuring guest writers Brent Armendinger, Jim Krusoe, and Holly Myers, and guest artist Joe Biel.

Passages is guest curated by Christopher Michno, a Los Angeles based freelance writer who contributes regularly to Artillery Magazine and Art Ltd Magazine.  His reviews, features, and artist and curator interviews have appeared in a number of other publications including THE Magazine Los Angeles.

Exhibition Dates: August 5th through September 23rd, 2011
